Dora the Explorer cupcakes and cake tower

These Dora the Explorer cupcakes and cake/cupcake tower are by Top the Cupcake in Perth, Australia, via Flickr.

I especially appreciate a behind the scenes look at the trials and tribulations of baking. From the post "Dora is so hot right now!":

It was a mammoth effort as those Dora characters were really hard to cut out! Not only were the Dora characters difficult to replicate, but my baking skills were really lacking that morning for some bizarre reason. Perhaps it was because I had no sleep as I was busy making those tricky Dora characters! Actually that is a lie – I had a hour’s power nap across my dining room chairs for an energy boost at 4AM. Anyway, there was something very wrong with my baking that morning. I burnt my vanilla cupcakes and could not get my buttercream frosting to work. My frosting was cluggy and had all these unnecessary lumps in them! To this day, I still do not know the reason behind this. I had sifted the icing twice and the butter was at room temperature. But nevertheless, there were lumps! Bah, it makes me furious just thinking about it.

NCIS typewriter cupcake!

NCIS fan Aikko at the very cool blog Bake Happy (she's the one who made these Lady Gaga cupcakes!) made these very cool fondant typewriter cupcakes and tells you exactly how to make your own!

She writes:

I am a NCIS fan. I have watched the whole series (whole 8 seasons, season 9 on-going) four times, excluding the times I catch the show on Fox and Jack (which is a lot) . I decorate cakes while watching the show which is kind of ironic and contradicting because cakes are all happy, cheery, endorphine enducing cute little things while I watch a show which investigates not so good events every episode. My favorite episode is the first one from season seven because I'm a girl and I'm rooting for Tony and Ziva. And also when Abby found evidence linking Gibbs to Paloma Reynosa. Then there's McGee who loves to his write his novels on a typewriter which got him into trouble because an obsessed fan used the typewriter ribbon to act out the not so good events of his soon to be published second novel.

Muppets cake pops and Bakerella in a box: cake pops kit and notecards!

The latest ultra cute cake pops by the queen of cake pops herself, Bakerella, are these Muppets cake pops (click through for many more gorgeous images and find out how to make them).

Muppets cake pops by Bakerella, via Flickr

What else is new with Bakerella? Lots! In addition to her New York Times-bestselling cookbook Cake Pops, she's got two new items out for you to share your cake pop love. One is a cake pops kit, to make your cake popping easier, and one is cake pops notecards for, yes, snail mailing, which some of us still do (personally, I love getting cards in the mail, actually, anything in the mail except bills!). More great stocking stuffer ideas.

Very cute moshi monster cupcakes

I'm loving these moshi monster cupcakes and how Daisy Cakes in the UK (Newton Abbot, South Devon) made even the one with blood dripping out of its mouth kindof cute (right? or is that just me?). Via Flickr.

Halloween vampire and monster cupcakes, plus Princess Leia, Storm Trooper, Darth Vader and Yoda cupcakes

Perfect for Halloween (or any time), food blogger Rawdorable, who's given us so many wonderful raw cupcake treats, has served up raw vegan versions of Halloween vampire and monster cupcakes as well as 4 Star Wars cupcakes (Princess Leia, Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and Yoda)! Click through on the links to find out how she made them. The monster's face totally makes me smile (how could it not?), and I love the pomegranate seeds inside the vampire one (I've never had a pomegranate cupcake but I do like pomegranate seeds). She got her vampire cupcake recipe from The GirlieGirl Army.

Coconut Wampa cupcakes

These are coconut Wampa cupcakes by Geeks are Sexy, where they've also got some Wookie cupcakes. And no, I'd never heard of Wampa before this post because, as I think I've blogged before, I've never seen Star Wars. Please don't stop reading this blog because of that (kidding, kind of). Rubik's Cube and Angry Birds cake pops

How cool is this? I haven't seen an actual Rubik's Cube in many, many years. I wonder how I'd do at it now. By Glasgow, Scotland's Flamingo Bakery, via Flickr. You can also find them @flamingobakery on Twitter and Facebook.

And because I can't resist...they've also made Angry Birds cake pops:
